How It Works

How It Works

Everything you need to know about our custom 3D prints — from ordering and proofs to sizing, materials, and policies.

How We Build Your Piece

Our display bodies are made using FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printing technology. The finish depends on the product: our custom plaques use layered filament detail, while nameplate logos and desk displays include full color UV printed artwork with raised texture. Optional helmet shield back personalization is printed flat with UV ink. Unlike traditional manufacturing, 3D printing builds your piece layer by layer from the ground up — depositing material one thin line at a time until the full design takes shape.

The result is a true three-dimensional object with real raised depth and texture that you can see and feel. Your product listing explains the construction and finish included with your order.

What to Expect: The Nature of 3D Printing

Because each piece is built layer by layer, 3D prints have characteristics that are inherent to the process. These are not defects — they are part of what makes each piece unique and authentically 3D printed.

Layer Lines

You may see fine horizontal lines on the surface of your piece. These are the individual layers of material and are a natural signature of FDM 3D printing. They are most visible on curved or angled surfaces.

Color Variations

We match colors as closely as possible using available PLA filament. However, exact color matching cannot be guaranteed. Colors may appear slightly different due to filament availability, lighting, and the difference between screen colors and physical materials.

Minor Stringing or Cleanup Marks

During printing, thin wisps of material can occasionally form between sections. We clean every piece by hand before shipping, but minor marks from this cleanup may be visible on close inspection.

Surface Texture

The texture of a 3D print differs from injection-molded plastic or resin. You may notice slight variations in smoothness between different areas, particularly where the printer transitions between colors or sections.

We take pride in the quality of every piece. If something doesn't look right, we want to know. But the characteristics above are inherent to 3D printing and are present on every piece we make — they're part of what makes it real.

Sizes & Detail

Custom plaques are available in 6, 8, 10, and 12 inches, measured along the longest edge. Standard Depth is approximately 5 mm; Double Depth is approximately 10 mm. Other products have their own dimensions shown in their listings.

6" inches
8" inches
10" inches
12" inches
Very fine detail — such as thin text, small lettering, or intricate line work — may be lost or require slight adjustments during printing. This is especially true at the 6" size, where the physical resolution of the printer limits how much detail can be cleanly reproduced. For designs with fine detail, we recommend 8" or larger.

Any necessary adjustments will be reflected in your digital proof before printing, so you'll always see exactly what to expect.

The Proof Process

Every custom order includes a digital proof before we print. Nothing goes to the printer without your approval.

1) You place your order and upload an image of your badge, patch, logo, or emblem.
2) We create a digital proof and send it to you — usually within 1 to 3 business days.
3) You review the proof. If anything needs to change, let us know — request any corrections before approving. Small proof corrections are included; major redesigns may require an additional quote. Digital file services include the revision allowance stated in their listing.
4) Once you approve the proof, production begins. Standard Depth custom plaques typically take 5 to 7 business days; Double Depth plaques take 7 to 10 business days. Other products follow their listing's production estimate.
For best results, we recommend a clear, high-resolution image. But if that's not available, don't worry — we can often clean up, rebuild, or recreate artwork from your references. We will review what is possible and show necessary adjustments in your proof.

Materials & Durability

All pieces are printed in PLA (Polylactic Acid), a strong and widely used 3D printing material.

Durable & Rigid

Holds its shape and detail over time. Built for long-term display.

Lightweight

Easy to mount on walls, display on desks, or transport to events.

Vibrant Color

PLA takes color exceptionally well for detailed, full-color designs.

Made for Display

PLA provides a lightweight body with crisp detail for indoor displays.

PLA is best suited for indoor display. It is not recommended for prolonged direct sunlight, high heat (above 140°F / 60°C), or extreme moisture. Contact us for outdoor-rated material options.

Returns & Refunds

Because every piece is custom-made to your specifications, we do not accept returns or offer refunds on custom orders unless:

• The item arrives damaged during shipping

• The item has a manufacturing defect (not consistent with normal 3D printing characteristics described above)

• The item does not match your approved proof

If any of these apply, contact us within 7 days of delivery with photos of the issue and we will make it right — either by reprinting the piece or issuing a refund.

We strongly encourage you to review your digital proof carefully before approving. Once a proof is approved and printing begins, the order cannot be cancelled or modified.

Care Instructions

  • 🏠Display indoors in a cool, dry location
  • ☀️Avoid prolonged direct sunlight (may cause fading or warping)
  • 🌡️Do not expose to temperatures above 140°F / 60°C
  • 🧤Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth or lightly damp microfiber
  • 💧Do not submerge in water or use chemical cleaners
  • ⚠️Handle with care — PLA can crack or chip if dropped on hard surfaces
